Training 40 Youth Agripreneurs with PELUM Kenya's YALTA Alliance

Spring Agric delivered a three-day practical training for PELUM Kenya's Youth Agroecological Land and Trade Alliance, equipping 40 young agripreneurs from over 10 counties with skills in agroecology, agribusiness, and marketing.

From 13 to 15 April 2026, we spent three practical, hands-on days with PELUM Kenya's Youth Agroecological Land and Trade Alliance (YALTA). The training brought together 40 youth agripreneurs from over 10 counties across Kenya, working across agroecological value chains including poultry, African Leafy Vegetables (ALVs), biofertilizers, animal feed production, and mixed enterprises.

What stood out most was how quickly the room came alive. Participants arrived with real businesses and real questions, and the sessions gave them room to sharpen their skills across agroecology, business costing and pricing, and social media marketing. By the end, the cohort rated how practical the training was at 4.72 out of 5.0.

The energy in the room told the whole story. Every young farmer we asked said they would recommend the experience to a peer, all of them wanted to keep the conversation going in our WhatsApp support community, and 36 walked away with their own action plans and concrete commitments for the next 30 to 90 days.

When we asked what shifted for them, the answers were specific: writing a business proposal, keeping records and separating business from personal money, building a brand identity, creating content for social media, and preparing bokashi and biofertilizers. These are the everyday skills that turn a hustle into a business.

If there was one clear message from the cohort, it was simply: give us more time. More than half asked for a longer training or extra days, a reflection of just how hungry these young agripreneurs are to learn and grow.
